If you are getting married in St John's Church, Church House would be happy to host your wedding reception.
This is more suitable for a small wedding - we would recommend a maximum of around 40-50 guests for a sit-down meal, although the maximum allowed by our conditions of hire is 100.
In the summer months, there is the possibility of having a marquee erected in the garden, although please note that the maximum number of attendees still applies. This might allow you to host the wedding breakfast in the marquee and use the hall itself as a dancefloor.
We have a well-equipped kitchen on site, suitable for use by external caterers.
For more information on the facilities, please see this page.
You must adhere to the hire conditions and pay the hire fees: please see this page.
The cost is based on our currently applicable hire charges. When people hire the premises for a wedding, they usually hire from Friday evening to Sunday morning, with the wedding happening on the Saturday. We will charge for time on the Friday evening, a full Saturday, and a couple of hours on the Sunday morning. Please enquire with details of your planned event for more information.
Payment will be due before the event takes place. We do not currently take a deposit. Should you cancel at short notice we reserve the right to charge the full cost of hire.
Use of the main hall, kitchen and garden area are included. You also have use of the tables and chairs as well as all the cutlery, crockery and other equipment in the kitchen.
We do not do any setting up for you, so this is a very DIY venue.
Church House does not provide catering; you will need to source your own caterers.
We do not have a bar service; you are welcome to bring your own drinks to serve. If selling alcohol onsite, you will need to apply to the Council for a Temporary Event Notice. This should be done at least two clear weeks prior to the event.
We would request that you please do not use drawing pins, Sellotape or Blu-Tac to fix balloons or decorations to any walls, as the plaster is fragile and liable to pull away.
Please only attach decorations to woodwork using Blu-Tac and string, which must be completely removed at the end of the hiring. Please do not use drawing pins.
If you have particular requirements, please contact us for advice.
Church House is located in a residential area. We ask all users to please be considerate to our neighbours and limit noise after 11pm.
The hall does not have a separate raised stage area. There is also no PA system at the hall or any AV equipment available. We are unable to recommend any local suppliers of this sort of equipment.
Yes. Wi-Fi is available in the hall.
No, we do not have a list of preferred suppliers - please feel free to research your own suppliers for your event.
Parking is on-road parking only. There is normally space for around 12 cars alongside the churchyard in Bathwell Lane. Other parking may be able to be found close-by, but there is no dedicated car park.
There is step-free access to the hall itself, and to the garden via a side gate. There is also a disabled loo onsite.
Unfortunately, there is no dedicated disabled parking available.
Your hire times should include the time needed for you to set up and pack away. Usually, hirers for weddings choose to do the setting up on the Friday evening, have the wedding itself on the Saturday, and then finish off packing up on Sunday morning. We are usually able to accommodate that.
